Our story
We are Ruth and Kingston, the Founders of Ideas & Motion. We have over 20 years of experience in senior commercial and operations roles and we came together in both life and profession in 2024. Having realised our joint passion to 'get things done' we decided to create a consultancy focused on supporting organisations to reach their full potential. Our vision is to combine innovation and creativity, with a practical and evidence based approach to get things done. We tackle every project with curiosity, enthusiasm and a problem solving mindset.
Having worked successfully with organisations of all sizes and sectors, we specialise in adapting and applying robust business stratedgy, to every situation. Since 2011, we have worked work with a huge variety of organisations. As a result we have vast experience in project management, commercial optimisation, systems integration, marketing strategy, performance analysis, business coaching and leadership training. We have supported and accelerated growth for start up businesses, as well as optimising commercial success and operations efficiency for arts and culture organisations and charities, of all sizes.
The variety of people, places and challenges is what motivates us, so whatever barrier you're facing, we'd love to hear from you.
Who are we?
Motivated by 'getting it done differently', Kingston founded Ideas & Motion to help organisations achieve the same results he's seen in his substantive roles within the sector. Outside of his work for Ideas & Motion Kingston is Director of Enterprise & Innovation (leading on marketing, visitor experience and commercial activity) at Birmingham Museums Trust. He there joined from English Heritage, where he was Head of Commercial Development, and brings plenty of hands-on experience in growing audiences, income and impact.
He’s also actively involved across the sector as a Trustee and Director of the Association for Cultural Enterprises and a member of several steering groups and committees. Known for his passion, humour and straight-talking approach, Kingston is a regular conference speaker and a well-recognised voice on the business side of arts & culture.
Ruth founded Ideas & Motion after building a successful career in the technology sector, becoming Operations Director at one of the UK’s most innovative companies. She took her operations and commercial experience and applied it to supporting community led projects and charities. She led the operations for one of the country's busiest foodbanks and is a lifelong volunteer, holding roles such as Director of Worcester LitFest and as a Trustee and risk specialist for the Black Pear Trust.
Ruth is qualified project manager and is known for her positive and pragmatic approach to problem solving. Her extensive training and experience in leadership coaching and facilitation is one of her biggest assets to organisations she works with. She is trained in compassionate communication and implementation of business management systems that help improve business effciency and culture.
